The tragic loss of their mother from an opioid overdose was the last straw for brothers Steve Litteer (Founder & CEO) and Drew Inzinna (General Manager). Steve and Drew were raised in poverty with their sister Ashley in the small and underappreciated village of Dansville New York (Home of the 1st Chapter of The American Red Cross Started by Clara Barton herself).
The siblings were raised by a mother with a GED level education and a father with an 8th grade level education who was jailed and ultimately sentenced to New York State Prison after receiving several felony convictions, all related to cannabis. Both parents suffered from significant mental health and physical health ailments that eventually rendered them both medically disabled.
Combined with various other traumatic experiences, the brothers witnessed their family, friends and classmates be devastated by incarceration for cannabis related crimes, fatal heroin & opioid overdoses, suicides, and fatal accidents steaming from the abuse of alcohol.
While the brothers have no way of knowing whether things would be different if cannabis was normalized and completely legal, they are resentful about never being given the opportunity to know for sure.
Did you Know????....Our Forefathers such as George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson grew Hemp and not only spoke great things of the plant, but actually took part in the creation of a hemp industry. See some of their famous quotes and facts about hemp below:
"Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth and protection of this country." - Thomas Jefferson
"Make the most of the Indian hemp seed, and sow it everywhere" - George Washington
The initial drafts of the Declaration of Independence were drafted on Hemp Paper.
The First American Flag Sewed by Betsy Ross Was with Hemp Fiber
Although they may look the same, Hemp and Marijuana are different cultivars of the Cannabis Sativa-L plant with their own unique qualities. Most hemp cultivars are rich in CBD content and low in Delta-9 THC. Most hemp cultivars have high CBD content and very low THC content whereas marijuana cultivars contain high amounts of THC and very low, if any, CBD.
In order to fit the current U.S. legal definition of hemp, the Cannabis Sativa-L plant must have a maximum Delta-9-THC composition of only 0.3% on a dry weight basis.
Although both Hemp and Marijuana are both used medicinally, spiritually and recreationally, Hemp in particualr, has several other use cases such as making paper, plastics, clothing, building materials, food, and biofuel.
The Federal 2014 Farm Bill legalized the growth of industrial hemp in the U.S. and allowed the States to institute Hemp Pilot Research Programs.
In 2015, New York State launched its Industrial Hemp Research Pilot Program, which was later expanded to include farmers and businesses in 2017. New York State now holds one of the most robust Hemp and CBD markets in the United States.
The Federal 2018 Farm Bill fully legalized hemp and its derivatives as a commodity throughout the entire United States.
As directed by Congress, we are awaiting for the regulations to be set forth by the FDA that provides a clear pathway to market and sell CBD products. Notwithstanding however, New York State arguably has the most regulated and robust CBD and hemp programs in the Country. As such, 4Fathers CBD is only sold in New York State.
